JEAN MATHESON Correspondent
A rural Eagle man who led officers on an 18-mile high-speed chase that ended in East Troy has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
Dominic S. Scianna, 26, pleaded guilty to a felony count of fleeing officers in the May 9 incident. Walworth County Circuit Judge Robert Kennedy at the Aug. 30 sentencing also ordered Scianna to serve two years on extended supervision when he is released from prison.
Sheriff's deputies said they observed Scianna driving in an "erratic and dangerous" manner when they pulled him over at 1:55 a.m. on Highway A in the Town of Sugar Creek.
After stopping briefly, however, Scianna sped away from officers and headed east. Driving more than 18 miles at speeds of an estimated 81 mph, he was eventually stopped on County Road ES on the western edge of East Troy. Deputies said that along the way Scianna managed to avoid two sets of stop sticks, meant to deflate tires, and drove through a field and a ditchline.
Deputies in three squad cars and Village of East Troy police in a squad car finally were able to box in Scianna's car, forcing it to stop, officers said.
Officers said they found 38 grams of marijuana in Scianna's car. As part of a plea agreement, a charge against Scianna of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver was dismissed.
Scianna has a long record of criminal convictions in both Walworth and Rock counties. In 2008, in Rock County he was sentenced to one year in jail for fleeing officers, delivering marijuana and felony bail jumping.
