MICHAEL S. HOEY Correspondent
The City of Delavan Finance Committee voted June 29 to recommend the Common Council this month approve reimbursing Delavan Resort Holdings, owners of Lake Lawn Resort, some of the fees it has paid the city over the past two years.
In 2009 and last month, Delavan Resort Holdings was denied renewal of its liquor license because of fees it owed the city. City ordinance dictates no license can be renewed or granted to a business that owes the city money. The council voted June 8 to deny licenses to several businesses including Delavan Resort Holdings based on the ordinance.
A special council meeting was scheduled to follow the Finance Committee meeting June 29 to provide those businesses the opportunity to dispute the fees they owed. All of them, including Delavan Resort Holdings, paid what they owed before the meeting, and all the licenses were granted.
For the year 2008-09, Delavan Resort Holdings owed the city more than $40,000 in "cost recovery" fees related to engineering charges the city paid and then billed the developer for per the city's development agreement with Lake Lawn. The developer owed the city another $20,000 for 2009-10.
In both cases Delavan Resort Holdings disputed some of the charges but paid them to keep its liquor license. City Administrator Joe Salitros said at the Finance Committee meeting that Lake Lawn is up to date on the bills it owes the city.
