Harriet Llewellyn exhibit held over through July
By popular demand, the Delavan Historical Society will continue the exhibit of Harriet Llewellyn's artwork at the historical society's Exhibit and Resource Center through Aug. 2.

"We've been asked by several alumni of Delavan High School and Delavan-Darien High School to extend the exhibit since there are several class reunions taking place in July," said Patti Marsicano, Delavan Historical Society president. "This would give the opportunity for those who have moved away from Delavan to enjoy paintings of some familiar places that are no longer here."

Several classes will be in town the last weekend of July and the Delavan Historical Society Exhibit and Resource Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1 to provide more opportunity for out-of-town visitors to view the exhibit.

Nearly 90 pieces of artwork by Harriett Llewellyn are on exhibit with several added last week.

"Visitors come in to view the exhibit and realize that they have a painting or a family member does, and they show up a few days later with the paintings." Marsicano said.

Most of the images are of homes and businesses throughout Delavan including schools and churches. Some paintings are of businesses in nearby communities and even a few images from as far away as London.

Much of Delavan's past is also evident in the exhibit's "Restaurant Row" paintings. The works range from the iconic Millie's Pancake House and the Village Supper Club to The Duck Inn and Ralph's Steak House. The latter being all the more precious, Marsicano said, because the building that use to be Ralph's recently burned to the ground. Visitors can also reminisce while viewing images of Dinty Moore's and Flemings. Also on exhibit is a block quilt designed and sewn by Llewellyn for the Episcopal Church.
